Riding School Rules and Regulations

  1. Dress Code
You must wear an ATSM-approved horse riding helmet, proper riding boots and a sleeved shirt whilst riding.  If you are incorrectly dressed, you will not be allowed to ride for safety reasons.  The Riding Section has some horse riding helmets and riding boots for loan for beginners, but no guarantees are offered that the correct size will be available.
  2. Minimum Age
Children taking lessons must be at least seven (7) years old.
  3. Weight Restriction
In the interest of safety and welfare, BTSC operates an upper weight limit of 90kg for all riders.
  4. Cancellation of Group Lessons
If you are unable to attend your scheduled lesson, as a courtesy please inform the club at the earliest opportunity. Please try to attend all your lessons, as no refunds or make-up lessons will be given unless cancelled by an instructor (see below). Private, semi-private & loose lessons must be cancelled at least 48 hours before the lesson. Otherwise the full fee will be charged.
  5. Cancellation of Lessons by the Riding Section
If your instructor cancels a group lesson because, for example, but not limited to, a competition, you will be offered a make-up lesson, usually on a date allocated by the instructor, within 1 month of the cancelled lesson.
  6. Discontinuation of Lessons
If you wish to discontinue your scheduled lessons entirely, or make any changes to your lesson timing, please provide the club two (2) weeks notice in writing as insufficient notice will result in full monthly charges.  Changes to scheduled lessons take place at the beginning of each calendar month.
  7. Guest Rides
Members may bring a guest to ride a Riding Section horse.  Please complete the Release of Liability form and ensure your guest abides by the Rules & Regulations of the Club.  Guest rides on Riding Section horses must be arranged with the Equestrian Manager & Instructor before being confirmed.
  8. Self Rides
Self Rides will only be permitted when / if the rider is deemed competent by an instructor.  Self Rides should be confirmed before a booking is made.  Lessons will take priority in terms of horse allocation, availability and school use.  Cancellation of the Self-Ride should be made at least 48 hours prior to the ride otherwise the full fee will be charged.
  9. Public Holidays
No lessons will be given on public holidays. If a public holiday falls on a Monday (the regular day off for BTSC staff), the following day will be treated as a public holiday.
  10. Bad Weather
In the event of bad weather or poor riding conditions resulting from bad weather as decided by your instructor, a stable management lesson will be held to replace the riding lesson.  No request for a make-up lesson or refund will be entertained.
